Sonic Movie Producers to Create Live-Action Toys 'R' Us Film

In an unexpected twist for movie enthusiasts, a live-action Toys "R" Us film is currently in development. According to Variety, the production is being spearheaded by Story Kitchen, the creative force behind recent video game movie adaptations such as the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Their goal is to encapsulate the essence of childhood wonder through a modern, fast-paced adventure that celebrates the Toys 'R' Us brand's storied legacy spanning over 70 years in the toy industry.

“Toys 'R' Us is a cultural touchstone that continues impacting the child in all of us today,” stated Story Kitchen co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg. “As '80s kids who considered Toys 'R' Us one of the most magical places on Earth, we’re honored to partner to create a film that will capture the spirit of adventure, creativity and nostalgia that Toys 'R' Us represents.”

The narrative of the film draws inspiration from classics like Night at the Museum, Back to the Future, and Big, as well as successful toy-to-movie franchises such as Barbie. While specific casting details remain under wraps, the production team includes Johnson, Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Elena Sandoval from Story Kitchen, alongside Kim Miller Olko from Toys "R" Us Studios.

Story Kitchen's portfolio is expanding rapidly, with last year's announcement of a film adaptation of Square Enix's Just Cause, directed by Ángel Manuel Soto of Blue Beetle fame. Additionally, they are working on adaptations of Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, and Sleeping Dogs, showcasing their commitment to bringing diverse and engaging stories to the screen.
