Recent events surrounding the viral Skibidi Toilet and the popular sandbox game Garry's Mod have taken a bizarre turn involving DMCA notices. However, it appears the situation has been resolved, as game developer Garry Newman has confirmed the matter is closed.
[1] Image via Steam Garry Newman, creator of Garry's Mod, recently informed IGN that he received a DMCA takedown notice late last year from individuals associated with the Skibidi Toilet copyright holders. Newman expressed his disbelief on a Discord server, stating, "Can you believe the cheek?" This sparked a viral controversy surrounding a Skibidi Toilet-related DMCA against Garry's Mod. While Newman confirmed the issue is now resolved, the identity of the party who sent the DMCA remains undisclosed.
The DMCA notice targeted "unauthorized Skibidi Toilet Garry's Mod" creations, which the sender claimed generated significant revenue. These user-created games utilize characters from the Skibidi Toilet web series, such as Titan Cameraman, Titan Speakerman, and Titan TV Man, all of which the sender asserted were registered copyrights. The notice was issued against Garry's Mod, the Valve-published sandbox game released in 2006.
