Power Rangers is set to make a triumphant return with a new live-action series on Disney+. According to The Wrap, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, the showrunners behind the acclaimed Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, are in discussions to helm the project for Disney+ and 20th Century TV.
Hasbro, the current owner of the Power Rangers franchise, aims to revitalize the iconic series for a new generation while retaining its existing fanbase. This move aligns with Hasbro's vision to expand the Power Rangers brand across various platforms, including toys, games, consumer products, digital gaming, and entertainment, as articulated by Brian Goldner, Hasbro's former chairman and CEO, upon acquiring the franchise from Saban Properties in a $522 million deal in 2018.

The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, a beloved '90s TV show, captured the hearts of children worldwide with its teenage superheroes and their impressive mechs, which could combine to form an even larger mech.
The announcement follows the underwhelming performance of the 2017 movie reboot, which attempted a grittier take on the franchise but failed to secure a sequel. This led to Saban selling the rights to Hasbro shortly after.
Hasbro's ambitious plans extend beyond Power Rangers. The company is also developing a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms and an animated Magic: The Gathering series, both in the works at Netflix, alongside a cinematic universe for Magic: The Gathering.
