Following the exciting reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, it's clear that the successful partnership between Nintendo and Xbox is set to continue. Microsoft's head of gaming, Phil Spencer, recently reaffirmed his commitment to the Switch platform, highlighting it as a key way for Xbox to connect with gamers who aren't typically on their systems.
In a recent interview with Variety, Spencer was quizzed on any specific projects Xbox might have lined up for the Nintendo Switch 2. He emphasized that just as Xbox has been supporting the original Switch, they are eager to extend that support to the Switch 2.
"Nintendo has been a fantastic partner. We see this as a unique opportunity to reach players who aren’t on PC or Xbox," Spencer explained. "It allows us to expand our community and engage with fans who are passionate about our franchises. It's crucial for us to keep investing in our games and ensuring they reach as wide an audience as possible."
Spencer expressed his strong belief in Nintendo's role in the gaming industry and the importance of Xbox continuing to support them. "I’m a big believer in what Nintendo means for this industry, and us continuing to support them," he said. "Receiving their support for our franchises is a vital part of our future strategy."
Spencer has been a vocal supporter of the Nintendo Switch 2, praising Nintendo's innovative approach since the console's first teaser. He also confirmed that Xbox plans to bring more of its games to various platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo's consoles.
When asked by Variety if the Switch 2 reveal made him eager to announce Xbox's next console lineup, Spencer remained focused on Xbox's current strategy. "No. I think all of us in this industry should focus on our communities and the player base that we’re building," he stated. "I get inspired by what a lot of different creators do and other platform holders. But I believe in the plans that we have."
The Xbox head reiterated the company's commitment to delivering games across as many platforms as possible, including cloud, PC, and consoles. Titles like Pentiment and Obsidian's Grounded have already made their way to Nintendo platforms, and it will be fascinating to see what Xbox has in store for the Switch 2 once it officially launches.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to make its official debut on June 5, 2025. While pre-orders have not yet started, keep an eye on our Switch 2 pre-order hub page for the latest updates on when they might become available.
