During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo revealed that nearly all games from the original Nintendo Switch library will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, select titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions with unique features. These upgraded games include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game boasts distinct enhancements. The first game highlighted was Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which will feature a new mode called "Jamboree TV." This mode incorporates mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced haptic feedback described as "more expressive rumble," and gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.
Next showcased were The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which will benefit from improved resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, these titles will integrate with a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes. This feature offers voice guidance for locating Shrines and Koroks, and allows players to share their creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 titled Star-Crossed World, alongside enhanced graphics and framerates.
Two upcoming titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, will also see upgrades. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls and boast 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature improved resolution and framerates.
These upgraded editions will be available in both physical and digital formats. For those who already own the original versions on the Nintendo Switch, upgrade packs will be available for purchase for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

Later in the presentation, it was announced that several third-party games will also receive Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, including Civilization 7, which will support mouse controls, and Street Fighter 6, which will feature exclusive game modes for the Switch 2.
Nintendo had hinted at these "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games last week through a webpage that mentioned them in a footnote about the new Virtual Game Card system. The footnote stated that these games would not be transferable via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch.
