Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the innovative Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls on the Home screen, adding a new dimension to user interaction. Since the unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, the gaming community has been buzzing with excitement and speculation about the potential uses of the new Joy-Con's mouse functionality. Last month, we received official word that the Joy-Con can indeed switch to a "mouse mode," allowing players to glide the controllers over surfaces and use the analog sticks to mimic left-click and right-click actions, much like a traditional mouse. Moreover, it's possible to use two Joy-Con in mouse mode at the same time, either with one in each hand or one in standard mode and the other in mouse mode, enhancing the versatility of the system.
The latest developments were showcased on the Nintendo Today app and further shared on X/Twitter, revealing that the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls extend to navigating the Home menu on the Switch 2. As demonstrated in a post by Stealth on X, "If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen," Nintendo explained. "To display the cursor, set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or flat surface and move it as shown."

Nintendo further elaborated that "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus," and that these controls can be used on the Home menu as well as in compatible software. To revert to using the thumbstick, simply reposition the Joy-Con 2 into a horizontal orientation.
Although the full list of mouse-compatible games remains undisclosed, Nintendo has already demonstrated the technology's compatibility with Switch 2 editions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, along with the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.
The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for release on June 5. Pre-orders for the console opened on April 24, maintaining a steady price of $449.99 — and the response has been as enthusiastic as one might expect.
