Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, showcased a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key design elements. Based on a reportedly black-market acquired unit, the mockup accurately reflects the console's dimensions, hinting at a larger form factor approaching the size of Valve's Steam Deck.
Key features observed include magnetically attached Joy-Con controllers, featuring SL and SR buttons with a magnetic release mechanism activated by a dedicated button on each Joy-Con. Despite the magnetic design, Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed secure attachment during gameplay. Furthermore, the Joy-Con's mounting channels incorporate optical sensors, potentially enabling mouse-like functionality via an accessory. Leaked Switch 2 images appear to corroborate the presence of these sensors.
The mockup also displayed a second USB-C port and an enigmatic "C" button, the purpose of which remains unknown. While the Switch 2's increased size allows it to physically fit within the existing Switch dock, structural differences render it incompatible.
