Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order date and pricing for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, along with its array of accessories. While the console itself remains priced at $449.99 for the base model and $499.99 for the bundle with Mario Kart World, the price of accessories has seen a significant increase, potentially affecting early adopters' purchasing decisions.

The standalone game Mario Kart World is priced at $79.99, and Donkey Kong Bananza will set you back $69.99. However, it's the accessory price hikes that are drawing the most attention. Here's a detailed breakdown of the new accessory prices:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - $84.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Pair - $94.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip - $39.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
  • Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - $54.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set - $119.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector - $39.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99

In their official announcement, Nintendo stated that these "price adjustments" are due to "changes in market conditions" since the initial announcement on April 2. Notably, larger items like the Joy-Con 2 Pair, Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the camera have seen a uniform $5 increase, while the Switch 2 Dock Set has jumped by $10 to $119.99.

The community has expressed significant concern over these price increases, particularly the cost of a Joy-Con 2 Pair nearing a triple-digit price point. However, there's a silver lining for those hesitant about the new prices: many original Nintendo Switch accessories remain compatible with the Switch 2. According to Nintendo's support site, original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro controller can be wirelessly paired with the new console, although the former cannot be directly attached.

Social media platforms are buzzing with discussions about utilizing existing Switch 1 accessories or exploring third-party options. While these alternatives may lack some of the advanced features of the Switch 2 controllers, such as the C-button or the ability to wake the console, they offer a cost-effective solution for many.

Nintendo also cautioned that "other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions." This warning suggests that prices might continue to fluctuate. However, the compatibility of existing Pro controllers provides some reassurance for those concerned about the new accessory prices.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will commence on April 24, 2025, giving fans time to consider their options and plan their purchases accordingly.
