Player First Games has announced that MultiVersus Season 5 will mark the end of the Warner Bros. platform fighting game, with its final day set for May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio shared this news through a blog post on their website, revealing that MultiVersus, which debuted on May 28 of the previous year, will kick off its fifth and final season on February 4, 2025, and run until the game's closure.
Once the game's support ends, online play will cease, but Player First Games has assured players that they will still be able to enjoy all earned and purchased content offline through local gameplay and training modes. In a heartfelt message, the MultiVersus team expressed gratitude to the community, stating, “Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.”

As of today, real-money transactions for MultiVersus have been discontinued, though players can still use Gleamium and character tokens to access in-game content until the game's support officially ends. Additionally, MultiVersus will be removed from digital storefronts like the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at that time.
The decision to end MultiVersus comes on the heels of Warner Bros. Discovery reporting the game as a significant financial disappointment. In a financial call from November, the company disclosed that MultiVersus fell well short of expectations, leading to a $100 million writedown in its games sector. This added to a total of $300 million in losses after the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in January. Furthermore, Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad is set to leave the company following a challenging 2024, as reported by Variety last week.
"We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline,” said Gunnar Wiedenfels, the chief financial officer, during the November call.
Despite the closure coming just days after its one-year anniversary, MultiVersus Season 5 promises to go out with a flourish. Alongside the typical new content that seasonal updates bring, players can look forward to the addition of new characters Lola Bunny and Aquaman. Lola Bunny, the Looney Toons icon, will be unlockable as a daily calendar reward, while the DC superhero Aquaman will be accessible through the battle pass, both available starting next week.
