If you ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* is an MMORPG, the presence of fishing should settle the debate. Yes, fishing is a staple of the genre, and *Rune Slayer* is no exception. But don't worry, we're here to guide you through the fishing mechanics in *Rune Slayer*, which might not be as straightforward as in other games like *Fisch*.

Before you cast your first line, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**. This white-haired NPC can be found at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims. Simon needs you to catch 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box. Note the quotation marks around "fish"—we'll get to that soon.

To catch these "fish," you'll need a fishing rod and some bait. Conveniently, Simon is also your go-to vendor for these items.

**Buy a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon**. While 5 worms should suffice, we recommend purchasing 10 to be safe. Here's an important point: **you cannot equip the bait**. Instead, the Worms simply need to be in your inventory. When you successfully catch a fish, one Worm will automatically be consumed.

Another crucial detail: **you need at least 5 bait items in your inventory to catch any fish**. We initially tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. It was only after having 5 Worms that we started reeling in catches. We suggest placing the Worms in your hotbar to keep track of your supply. Once you're equipped with these essentials, you're ready to fish.

To begin fishing, **select your Wood Fishing Rod**. You can't equip it in the traditional sense, so just place it in your hotbar or access it from your inventory. Your character will then hold it ready to cast.

**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water**, such as the pier near Simon the Fisherman. Once your line is in the water, **keep an eye on the bobber**. When it makes one or two ripples, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**.

Keep in mind, **this method isn't foolproof**. Often, you won't catch anything, and sometimes you'll pull up junk. However, Simon counts junk as a "fish" for the quest, which explains the quotation marks earlier.

Your goal is to cast, wait for the ripples, and reel in anything five times. In our experience, we caught only two actual fish, with the rest being Old Cups.

**Once you've caught 5 "fish", return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He will reward you with a Tackle Box. Open it and store your remaining Worms inside to save inventory space.
