Since the highly successful launch of Marvel Rivals in December, players have been using mods to customize their game experience, despite the risk of account bans. These mods have allowed players to transform characters like Iron Man into Vegeta from Dragon Ball, Mantis into a goth, and even Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita from Chainsaw Man. However, with the release of Season 1 and the introduction of the Fantastic Four, Marvel Rivals developer NetEase implemented a new mod restriction through asset hash checking.
NetEase has made it clear through statements to IGN that the use of mods, as well as cheats, bots, hacks, or any other unauthorized third-party software, violates the game's terms and conditions. They have warned that modifying game files could lead to bans, reiterating, "It is not recommended to modify any game files, as doing so carries the risk of getting banned."
Despite these warnings, some players remain undeterred. A workaround has been discovered and shared widely online, which, although more complex than before, is still accessible to most PC users. Modder Prafit, who shared their workaround on Nexus Mods, cautioned users with a "Use at your own risk" message, noting that while NetEase hasn't issued permanent bans yet, the possibility remains uncertain.
The modding community continues to innovate, with new mods emerging that utilize the newly added Fantastic Four characters. For instance, Ercuallo's mod transforms Mister Fantastic into Luffy from the manga One Piece, and it has already been downloaded over 5,000 times in just two days since its release.

The question lingering among modders and users is whether NetEase will follow through with bans as threatened. No confirmed cases of bans for mod usage have surfaced yet, but the existence of workarounds might provoke further action from the developers.
NetEase's potential reasons for banning mods include protecting their revenue from skin sales, addressing intellectual property concerns, and maintaining game balance and performance. Modder Prafit noted that their workaround is best suited for players with high-performance PCs.
