Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Exceeds Sales Expectations

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Surpasses 200,000 Units Sold, Proving a Resurgence for the Classic Action Title

Released late last year, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has exceeded expectations, recently surpassing 200,000 units sold. Despite initial technical hurdles and controversy surrounding censorship, the game's sales figures demonstrate significant player demand.

Developed originally by Grasshopper Manufacture (known for the No More Heroes series), Lollipop Chainsaw is a vibrant action-hack-and-slash game where players control a chainsaw-wielding cheerleader battling zombies. While the original developer didn't helm the remaster, Dragami Games delivered a visually enhanced experience with improved quality-of-life features.

Months after its September 2024 launch across current and last-gen consoles, and PC, Dragami Games announced the impressive sales milestone via a tweet.

Celebrating Success: Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's Sales Triumph

The game casts players as Juliet Starling, a San Romero High cheerleader who uncovers her zombie-hunting heritage when her school is overrun. Juliet's signature chainsaw powers exhilarating hack-and-slash combat, reminiscent of Bayonetta and other iconic third-person action titles.

The original 2012 release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 achieved even greater success, selling over one million copies. This initial popularity likely stemmed from the unique collaboration between Goichi Suda (renowned game designer) and James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy director), who contributed significantly to the game's narrative.

While future DLC or a sequel remains unannounced, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's strong sales suggest a positive trend for remasters of cult-classic games. This success follows the recent release of another Grasshopper Manufacture title, Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, which brought the action-horror game to modern platforms.
