Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has been shattering its concurrent player records on Steam every day since its release. Dive in to explore the game's phenomenal success and what's on the horizon for future updates.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has soared to new heights, reaching over 250,000 concurrent players on Steam as of February 9, 2025. Creative Director Daniel Vávra proudly shared on Twitter (X) that the game hit a peak of 256,206 concurrent players. Since its launch, KCD2 has consistently broken its own records:
Reports suggest that KCD2 has sold approximately 890,000 copies on Steam alone. It currently ranks as the 2nd top-selling game on Steam, only behind Counter-Strike 2, and is the 5th most-played game, trailing CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana.
KCD2 sold 1 million copies on launch day, and with the current sales figures, it's on track to reach 2 million copies sold soon.
The remarkable success of KCD2's opening weekend can be attributed to Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail, which enhances player immersion and enjoyment. Building on the series' reputation for realism, KCD2 introduces new features that immerse players in a 15th-century medieval setting.
Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner shared with GamesRadar a new stealth mechanic where players must manage their cleanliness. Bittner explained, "If you get the debuff that, you know, your body odour, you smell. There's like a circle around you... Basically, you're broadcasting, like, I'm here."
The game also introduces "handgonnes," early firearms that reflect the era's technology. Bittner told PC Gamer, "So we knew it was going to be a meme weapon, but we were cool with it," highlighting the challenges and inaccuracies of these weapons.
KCD2's PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized their focus on authenticity over hyperaccuracy, stating, "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible."
Warhorse Studios has outlined a post-launch roadmap to keep players engaged throughout 2025. KCD2 will offer free updates and paid DLC content:
Given its stellar opening weekend performance, KCD2 is poised to continue its commercial success with these updates and expansions, potentially setting new records along the way.
