In a recent interview with ScreenRant ahead of his role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Idris Elba shared his thoughts on the prospect of a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film. Elba, who will reprise his role as Knuckles the Echidna, and Keanu Reeves, set to play Shadow the Hedgehog, have previously worked together, sparking interest in their potential collaboration in a Cyberpunk 2077 movie. Elba's response was filled with excitement: "Oh, man, that's a great question. I think if any film could do a live-action rendition, it could be [Cyberpunk 2077], and I think his character and my character together would be, ‘Whoa.’ So, let's speak that into existence."

Keanu Reeves portrayed the iconic Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, while Idris Elba brought to life the seasoned FIA sleeper agent Solomon Reed in the game's 2023 expansion, Phantom Liberty. Their on-screen chemistry could indeed make for a compelling live-action adaptation.

The idea of a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project isn't just a pipe dream. Variety reported in October 2023 that CD Projekt Red (CDPR), the creators of the game, are collaborating with Anonymous Content, the company behind hits like True Detective and Mr. Robot, to bring this vision to life. Although a year has passed without further updates, the success of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners animated series and the live-action adaptation of The Witcher 3, which has completed five seasons, suggests that a Cyberpunk 2077 film is within reach.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Releases Prequel Manga

In other exciting news for Cyberpunk fans, the franchise's acclaimed animated series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, continues to expand its universe. The first chapter of the prequel manga, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, is now available in selected languages, including Japanese, Polish, Italian, German, Spanish, and French, with Traditional Chinese set to release on December 20th. An English version is yet to be announced.

Written by Bartosz Sztybor, the producer of the anime and CDPR's comic book and animation narrative director, MADNESS delves into the backstory of siblings Rebecca and Pilar before they joined Maine's squad.
