Fallout 76 Season 20 introduces an exciting opportunity for players to immerse themselves in the role of a Ghoul within the radiation-saturated world of Appalachia. Delve into the new features, mechanics, and character options that come with this update, including the new level 50 character boost.
The latest update for Fallout 76, titled "The Ghoul Within," is now live, allowing players to explore the game as a Ghoul. Announced on Bethesda's website on March 18, this season brings a host of ghoul-related enhancements, mechanics, and fresh cosmetic options to personalize your C.A.M.P.
Players can transform into a Ghoul via a process called Ghoulification, initiated through the "Leap of Faith" questline. This quest leads players to a new part of the Savage Divide, where they'll encounter characters who aid in their transformation. As a Ghoul, players gain access to unique abilities like Glow and Feral, along with 30 exclusive Ghoul Perks.
The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a meter that affects gameplay. At different levels, it provides various boosts, but at 0%, it drastically alters your gameplay with "+150% Melee Damage, and -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."
The Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and even causing them to emit a glow. It also boosts maximum health, heals damage, and enhances the effects of Ghoul-exclusive Perks, or "Gherks" as Bethesda calls them.
Ghouls can choose from 28 perks and two new legendary perks. Note that perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are not available to Ghouls, as these mechanics don't apply to them.
Navigating the radiation-laden wasteland is easier as a Ghoul, thanks to the Gherks and abilities you gain. However, this transformation can make interactions with factions like the Brotherhood of Steel challenging, as they may become hostile, potentially restricting access to certain quests.
A new NPC, Jaye, provides disguises that allow Ghouls to interact with content otherwise inaccessible due to their Ghoul status. If the Ghoul lifestyle isn't for you, you can revert to being human via the Character Screen, though this is a one-way decision. To become a Ghoul again, you'll need to purchase the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms on the Character Screen.
New and veteran players can now accelerate their journey with the Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms in the Season 20 update. This boost helps players dive straight into multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and some story content.
The patch also includes bug fixes, balance adjustments, accessibility improvements, combat tweaks, and weapon damage changes. Bethesda has also announced the next update, "The Big Bloom," set for April 29, as part of their ongoing season calendar.
Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has overcome initial challenges with bugs and issues, earning a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of reviews being positive. The game is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
