Get Ready to Race! Two Classic F-Zero GBA Games Hit Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack!
Nintendo has just announced the arrival of two beloved GBA racing games from the F-Zero franchise to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack!
Nintendo's announcement today confirms the addition of classic Game Boy Advance racing titles, F-Zero: GP Legend and the previously Japan-only F-Zero Climax, to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack, available October 11th.
The F-Zero series, Nintendo's futuristic high-octane racing franchise, first debuted in Japan over 30 years ago in 1990. A critical success, it's widely credited with influencing other racing franchises, notably SEGA's Daytona USA. F-Zero consistently pushed the boundaries of console technology, earning its reputation as one of the fastest racing games on retro systems like the SNES.
Similar to the popular Mario Kart series, F-Zero challenges players to reach the finish line while navigating treacherous tracks and battling opponents in their unique "F-Zero machines." The series' iconic protagonist, Captain Falcon, is also a well-known fighter in the Super Smash Bros. series.
F-Zero: GP Legend initially launched in Japan in 2003, with a Western release following in 2004. F-Zero Climax, released in Japan in 2004, remained region-exclusive until now—marking a 19-year gap before the release of the Switch's F-Zero 99 last year. In an interview, F-Zero designer Takaya Imamura cited Mario Kart's immense popularity as a factor in the F-Zero series' prolonged hiatus. This October 2024 update to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack brings both F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend to subscribers, offering intense competition across various race modes including Grand Prix, story modes, and time trials.
