Dr Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Game

Midnight Society, the game studio co-founded by streamer Guy 'Dr. Disrespect' Beahm, has announced its closure after three years of operation, along with the cancellation of its anticipated FPS game, Deadrop. The studio shared the news on X, stating, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." They also reached out to the gaming community, asking if any studios are hiring and could offer employment opportunities to their team members.
Midnight Society was founded by Beahm alongside industry veterans Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo, known for their work on games like Call of Duty and Halo. The studio's debut project, Deadrop, was envisioned as a free-to-play FPS leveraging the team's extensive experience. Initially targeting a 2024 release, the game unfortunately missed this deadline.

In 2024, Midnight Society and Beahm parted ways after the streamer admitted to exchanging messages with a minor through Twitch's Whispers feature, some of which were deemed inappropriate. Despite this separation, the studio persisted with Deadrop's development until the decision to shut down was made this year.
Set in a fictional universe where "the 80s never ended," Deadrop promised a unique blend of PvPvE gameplay in an extraction shooter format. Visuals released by Midnight Society depicted characters in Daft Punk-inspired helmets, wielding an array of guns and swords, creating a distinctive aesthetic.
The closure of Midnight Society adds to the growing list of studios facing challenges in the current turbulent climate of the gaming industry, which has also affected companies like Ubisoft, BioWare, Phoenix Labs, and numerous others.
