After a period of quiet following the initial announcement in June 2024, there's an update on the mobile release of Don't Starve Together. Unfortunately, it won't be coming to Netflix Games as previously planned. However, the good news is that Don't Starve Together is still on its way to mobile devices, set to launch on both iOS and Android platforms.

Developers Playdigious and Klei Entertainment are continuing their collaboration to bring this survival game to your mobile. Known for its eerie, Tim Burton-inspired aesthetic, Don't Starve Together challenges players to survive on a hostile island, managing resources and avoiding starvation as they embody a range of quirky characters.

Originally intended to be a Netflix Games exclusive, Don't Starve Together will now be available globally through Google Play and the iOS App Store. While an exact release date hasn't been announced yet, both Klei Entertainment and Playdigious have assured fans that more details on the launch will be shared soon.

No Netflix for you The decision to abandon the exclusivity deal with Netflix raises questions about the future of indie games on the platform. Don't Starve is a major player in the indie survival genre, and its departure from Netflix Games, alongside other indie titles like Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, may signal a shift in focus for the service. This is particularly disappointing as Netflix's indie offerings have been a significant draw for many subscribers.

The move away from indie exclusives could be indicative of Netflix's increasing emphasis on its own properties, a trend I've discussed in my review of the launch of Squid Game: Unleashed. This shift may have broader implications for the indie gaming community on the service, which has been a valuable aspect of Netflix's gaming catalog.
