Snow White, directed by Marc Webb known for The Amazing Spider-Man films, faced a challenging start at the box office. The film, a live-action remake of Disney's 1937 animated classic, opened to a domestic total of $43 million according to Comscore figures. While this was enough to top the charts for the week and mark the second biggest debut of 2025 behind only Captain America: Brave New World, it fell short of expectations and other Disney remakes.

For comparison, other Disney remakes have seen much stronger openings. 2019's The Lion King, 2017's Beauty and the Beast, 2016's The Jungle Book, and 2023's The Little Mermaid all surpassed the $100 million mark in their domestic opening weekends. Even 2019's live-action Dumbo managed a slightly better start with $45 million.

Internationally, Snow White's performance was similarly subdued, earning $44.3 million over its opening weekend. This brings the global box office total to $87.3 million, as per Comscore estimates.

Starring Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, the film reportedly cost over $250 million to produce. With such a high budget, and considering additional marketing expenses, Snow White faces a steep climb to break even.

However, there's hope for the film. Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King, a prequel to the 2019 remake, started with a domestic opening of just $35.4 million but went on to earn over $717 million worldwide. Disney is likely banking on a similar 'sleeper hit' success for Snow White, especially amidst ongoing discussions about the performance of Captain America: Brave New World, which has grossed $400.8 million globally after six weekends.

IGN's review of Snow White awarded it a 7/10, praising it for meaningfully adapting the original rather than merely replicating it.
