"Among men, Lu Bu. Among horses, Red Hare." "Do not pursue Lu Bu." These iconic phrases from *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* are a stark warning – don’t fight Lu Bu. But what if you're up for the challenge? Here’s how to take on this legendary warrior.

Fighting Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is a daunting challenge. In my experience, it took over an hour to conquer this formidable foe. However, there are compelling reasons to take him on. Firstly, defeating Lu Bu earns you bragging rights – a true badge of honor. Secondly, if you align with Shu or Wei, you'll face him in Chapter 4 during the Battle of Xiapi, leaving you no choice. Lastly, defeating him at the Battle of Hulao Gate not only grants you the "The Strongest" trophy but also unlocks the game's final weapon, the halberd, in the post-game, providing strong incentives to challenge him.
Before engaging Lu Bu, ensure you're equipped with the right gear. A weapon like a sword that can hit multiple times and stagger him is essential, along with Battle Arts that require minimal Bravery, activate quickly, and have a wide range. In my battle, I used Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, and Flying Dragon Slash. Accessories that boost your health and defense, such as Divine Bird’s Wing and Divine Turtle’s Shell, are crucial as Lu Bu's attacks can quickly deplete your health. Additionally, choose a weapon with a skill that grants Bravery for each Perfect Evade, as this will be your primary way to gain Bravery during the fight.
In most encounters, Lu Bu starts on his horse, Red Hare. This phase is relatively straightforward; Lu Bu charges around the area on Red Hare. He's fast but will occasionally pause to rest. Use these moments to hit him with your Battle Arts, then retreat. His attacks have limited AOE, except when Red Hare jumps and crashes down, making them manageable to dodge. Once his health drops to 80%, he dismounts, and the real battle begins.
On foot, Lu Bu becomes even more formidable. His attacks are swift, and he moves rapidly across the battlefield. When he's surrounded by a red aura, he can't be staggered or interrupted. If he charges, evade and prepare for another charge, as he always attacks in sets of three. Be cautious if he charges without his spear; he's attempting to grab you, which can severely damage your health, but it's easily evaded like his other charges.
His most dangerous move is when he glows orange. With minimal prep time, he'll fire three massive arrows at you three times, juggling and decimating your health. Equip a Battle Art like Absconding Slash to cancel this from a distance; close-quarters Battle Arts like Palm Strike will lead to your demise. Keep your Musou gauge charged for emergencies, granting you invincibility for a few crucial seconds.
Lu Bu is surprisingly easy to juggle in this phase. Hitting him with consecutive attacks will quickly charge your Battle Arts and break his Fortitude meter. Stay close to react better to his attacks, and remember to evade frequently.
When Lu Bu's health is sufficiently depleted, he enters Musou Rage, marking the final phase. Now unstaggered, he unleashes a relentless barrage of attacks. Your goal is to deplete his Fortitude before he executes his Musou attack. Use all your remaining resources – activate Musou attacks when he's close, deploy Battle Arts, and strike fast and hard. If he completes his Musou Attack, he'll immediately reactivate it, forcing you to restart the phase. Breaking his Fortitude here will finally allow you to defeat this seemingly invincible adversary.
And that’s how to defeat Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins! The game is now available for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
