Crash Bandicoot 5 Allegedly Canceled After Studio Went Indie

A former Toys For Bob concept artist, Nicholas Kole, hinted at a canceled Crash Bandicoot 5 project on X (formerly Twitter). This revelation follows news of Kole's other scrapped project, "Project Dragon," which fueled speculation, quickly dispelled by Kole, that it was Spyro-related. Instead, it was an original IP with Phoenix Labs. Kole's comment about a potential Crash Bandicoot 5 meeting a similar fate caused significant fan disappointment.

"It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts," Kole tweeted.

The announcement understandably upset fans, with many expressing their sadness over the unmade game.

Crash Bandicoot 5 Allegedly Canceled After Studio Went Indie

The news comes after Toys For Bob's transition to an independent studio following Activision Blizzard's acquisition by Microsoft. While Toys For Bob is now collaborating with Microsoft Xbox for its first independent title, details remain scarce.

The last mainline Crash Bandicoot game, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time (2020), achieved over five million sales. Subsequent releases included the mobile runner Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! (2021) and the multiplayer title Crash Team Rumble (2023), the latter ending live service in March 2024. However, Crash Team Rumble remains playable on current-gen consoles.

With Toys For Bob's newfound independence, the future of Crash Bandicoot 5 remains uncertain. Whether or not this potential sequel will eventually be released is yet to be seen, leaving fans anxiously awaiting further news.
