In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, The Tournament is not only a thrilling source of XP and a way to earn the "Test Your Might" trophy, but it's also an exhilarating experience. Here’s a detailed guide on how to unlock, find, and conquer The Tournament to claim your victory.

To unlock The Tournament, you'll need to meet Gyoji, a resident of Yamato. After you've taken down several members of The Shinbakufu, Gyoji will be waiting outside your hideout, eager to discuss The Tournament. This clandestine fighting arena is situated at the Ominesanji Temple in Southeastern Yamato. For easy access, sync with the Ominesanji Overlook viewpoint to the west, creating a fast travel point. This step is crucial for swift returns and character switching.

Once at Ominesanji Temple, engage with Gyoji again. He'll inform you that you must triumph in four one-on-one duels before facing the ultimate champion. After the cutscene, ring the bell to commence your first battle.

How to Complete The Tournament in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Tournament is a gauntlet of intense, life-or-death combat. Fortunately, you can take breaks between fights, so use this time wisely to heal with rations and adjust or upgrade your weapons and armor as needed.

To best each opponent, we recommend equipping Yasuke with a long katana and mastering dodge and parry techniques to exploit their vulnerabilities. Utilize abilities like Power Dash and Payback when your adrenaline is high. Knowing the weapon each fighter wields can also give you an edge. Here’s a rundown of the tournament's combatants:

  • Lady Masago wields a Naginata.
  • Lord Suguru uses a Katana.
  • Lord Hokuto fights with a Kanabo.
  • Lady O-Sen dual-wields Poison Katanas and throws ranged items.
  • Lord Unkai employs a Naginata and can heal by drinking if you keep your distance too long.

Upon defeating all opponents, speak to Gyoji once more on the hilltop. He’ll express gratitude for his freedom and hint at future tournaments. During this dialogue, the "Test Your Might" trophy should unlock.

Best Loadout and Skills for Tournaments in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

For The Tournament, the Long Katana is your best bet. Equip the highest rarity version you own, and upgrade it at your hideout’s blacksmith to the maximum level. An engraving that boosts Armor Damage or Armor Piercing will be immensely beneficial. Your armor choice is equally vital, as it not only increases your health but can also offer game-changing abilities through engravings.

Before entering The Tournament, secure the Samurai Daimyo Armor of Legend by defeating The Ox, a member of The Shinbakufu. Also, acquire the Protector’s Armor by completing a Castle mission. The former engraving increases damage by 75% but caps your health at 25%, while the latter enables you to parry unblockable attacks. Combining these engravings into one armor set can allow you to dispatch The Tournament’s adversaries in under a minute, provided you parry effectively.

For skills, invest heavily in the Long Katana and Samurai skill trees. Max out Combat Expert to enhance your melee damage, and ensure you unlock Power Dash and Payback for optimal performance.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on March 20th. Dive into this epic adventure and prove your might in The Tournament!
