Classic DOOM and DOOM 2 have received an update

As fans eagerly await the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classics, playing the original DOOM games. In the meantime, the developers have been hard at work, and they've recently rolled out an exciting update for the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation. This update not only enhances the technical performance of these iconic games but also introduces several new features to enrich the gaming experience.

One of the standout improvements is the support for multiplayer modifications. Mods created with Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM are now compatible, expanding the possibilities for community-driven content. In cooperative play, all players can now pick up items, and there's a new observer mode for players who are waiting to be revived after dying. The multiplayer network code has been optimized, ensuring smoother gameplay. Additionally, the mod loader now supports handling over the first 100+ mods that players subscribe to, making it easier to enjoy a broader range of custom content.

Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, the developers are focusing on accessibility and customization. Players will have the option to adjust the aggression levels of demons within the game settings, tailoring the experience to their preference. Executive producer Marty Stratton has emphasized that the team's goal is to make the game as accessible as possible. This commitment to accessibility is reflected in the extensive customization options available, allowing players to modify enemies' damage and difficulty, projectile speeds, the amount of damage they take, and other gameplay elements such as tempo, aggression levels, and parry timing.

Stratton also reassured fans that prior knowledge of DOOM: The Dark Ages is not necessary to understand the narratives of both DOOM: The Dark Ages and DOOM: Eternal. This approach ensures that new players can jump into the series without feeling lost, while still offering depth for long-time fans.
