Sid Meier's renowned turn-based strategy series, *Civilization*, steps into a new era with *Civilization VII*. With its availability across major gaming platforms, players are keen to know about the cross-play and cross-progression features in this latest installment.

*Civilization VII* does offer cross-play, but with some important caveats. To enjoy this feature, players must have an active 2K account and link it to their chosen platforms. Cross-play works seamlessly among PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, macOS, and Linux, allowing players to engage in the full range of maps and player counts across different historical ages. However, when Nintendo Switch users join online matches, certain limitations apply. The Switch version cannot support map sizes listed as standard or above, and it restricts multiplayer to four players in the Antiquity and Exploration Ages, and six players in the Modern Age. Thus, while cross-play between most platforms is smooth, including a Switch player in a match imposes these restrictions. This doesn't mean *Civilization VII* shouldn't be played on the Switch, but it's crucial to be aware of these limitations when engaging in cross-play multiplayer.

In contrast to the complexities of cross-play, *Civilization VII*'s cross-progression system is straightforward. Players need only an active 2K account linked across their platforms to benefit from this feature. This means your progress is tracked and saved across all linked platforms, whether you're playing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or any other supported device. This feature, available at launch, reflects the modern gaming landscape where players often own multiple platforms. While *Civilization VI* introduced cross-progression post-launch, *Civilization VII* includes it from the start, ensuring a seamless experience whether you're playing on a Steam Deck, Switch, or at home on a PC or console.

*Civilization VII* is set to release on February 11.
