Chrono Trigger Celebrates 30 Years with Upcoming Projects and a Special Concert
Square Enix has announced the 30th anniversary of the beloved JRPG, Chrono Trigger. To mark this milestone, they've promised various projects launching throughout the year. While specifics remain under wraps, the announcement hints at possibilities extending beyond the game itself, fueling fan speculation.
Many fans have long hoped for a proper remaster or modern console release. Despite its iconic status, Chrono Trigger has yet to receive a full remake or a console release beyond the original PlayStation port in 1999. While it's available on PC and mobile platforms, a definitive modern version remains a sought-after goal. Square Enix's history of revisiting classic titles offers hope, but for now, the only confirmed anniversary event is a special concert.
This concert, showcasing Chrono Trigger's legendary soundtrack, will stream on YouTube on March 14th at 7:00 p.m. PT, running into the early hours of the next morning.
For those unfamiliar, Chrono Trigger is a time-traveling RPG developed by a legendary team: Hironobu Sakaguchi (Final Fantasy), Yuji Horii (Dragon Quest), and Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball). Originally released in 1995 for the Super Famicom and SNES, the game follows Crono and his companions as they journey through various eras, battling dinosaurs, navigating dystopian futures, and ultimately confronting one of gaming's most iconic final bosses.
