Ready to conquer the Chatacabra, whether by slaying it or capturing it? This long-tongued amphibian is one of the first monsters you'll encounter in *Monster Hunter Wilds*, and mastering this fight early on will set you up for success. Let's dive into how to effectively hunt this slippery beast.

How to Defeat the Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

Chatacabra

Weaknesses: Ice, Thunder
Resistances: N/A
Immunities: Sonic Bomb

The Chatacabra, a sizable frog-like monster, primarily relies on close-range attacks utilizing its long tongue. However, it can also charge if you maintain a distance. While relatively easy to defeat, making almost any weapon viable, its smaller size might slightly hinder weapons like the Bow and Charge Blade, as their multi-hit attacks are more efficient against larger targets.

The Chatacabra's tongue-based attacks pose the greatest threat when you're positioned in front of it. Besides its licking attack, it slams its front limbs into the ground, a move always preceded by a telltale rearing motion. The only attack to watch out for when not directly in front is a rearward tongue sweep after it raises its head.

The optimal strategy is to stay to the Chatacabra's sides, dodging or blocking its slam attack whenever it rears. Utilizing its elemental weaknesses will significantly accelerate the fight, ensuring a swift victory and a new, stylish frog-skin hat.

How to Capture the Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing Chatacabra

Monster capture in Monster Hunter Wilds follows a consistent pattern, and the flightless Chatacabra simplifies the process. You'll need either a Shock Trap or a Pitfall Trap, along with two Tranquilizer Bombs. However, carrying one of each trap type and a full eight Tranq Bombs is recommended for unforeseen circumstances.

Battle the Chatacabra until its mini-map icon displays a skull, indicating its final retreat. Follow it to its chosen location, set your trap, and lure the Chatacabra into it. Once trapped, use two Tranq Bombs to tranquilize it, completing the capture.
