Assassin's Creed Shadows: Free Updates and DLC Details Revealed

Ubisoft has shared an exciting roadmap for the first year of post-launch content for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, promising a wealth of new features and updates to keep the game fresh and engaging. In a detailed four-and-a-half-minute video update, the team behind this latest stealth-action title outlined a comprehensive plan for 2025, with a particular focus on the months of May and June. This roadmap is designed to keep fans engaged with a series of free updates throughout the year.

The rollout of new content kicks off in early May with "The Works of Luis Frois," the first of several free story add-ons. This update will also include a Codex update and several quality-of-life improvements. Additionally, significant enhancements to parkour and a photo mode update are slated for June. These updates reflect Ubisoft's commitment to incorporating community feedback into the ongoing development of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

"Your feedback has been a core focus of the team throughout development, and that's not stopping now that Shadows is released," said community developer Daniel St. Germain in the roadmap video. He emphasized that regular title updates will bring impactful additions and changes based on player feedback, along with bug fixes to refine the gaming experience across all platforms.

In June, players can look forward to another free story drop, along with more challenging difficulty settings, gameplay immersion options, an open-world alarm system, and the ability to toggle headgear visibility during cutscenes. These updates are just the beginning, with more features like new game+ support, additional story content, and special collaborations planned for later in the year.

The highlight of the post-launch roadmap is the first major DLC expansion, "Claws of Awaji," set to release later in 2025. This expansion will introduce new content, including the Bo staff weapon and a new region for protagonists Naoe and Yasuke to explore, offering a 10-hour journey. While pricing details are yet to be announced, the expansion will be free for those who pre-ordered Assassin’s Creed Shadows before its launch last month.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched on March 20 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, bringing Ubisoft's iconic stealth series to the setting of Feudal Japan. The game has already made a significant impact, securing a spot on our list of the best games of 2025 so far and becoming the best-selling game of last month.
