Anbernic, a well-known manufacturer of retro handheld consoles, has announced the suspension of all orders to the United States. According to The Verge, the company cited "changes in U.S. tariff policies" as the reason for this decision. Anbernic advises customers to opt for products shipped from their U.S. warehouse, which remain unaffected by these new import duties, ensuring a seamless purchasing experience. Orders that would typically be shipped from China are currently not being processed.

Anbernic is famous for its affordable Game Boy-inspired devices, which are usually shipped directly from China upon release, with surplus stock later stored in U.S. warehouses. On the Anbernic website, customers have the option to select their preferred shipping origin, either the U.S. or China. However, not all products are available for shipment from the U.S., meaning that certain popular models like the Anbernic RG CubeXX and RG 406H are no longer accessible to American customers.

The Trump administration's introduction of tariffs, which can reach up to 145% on Chinese imports, has significantly impacted the gaming industry. There's also a warning that tariffs on specific categories, such as electric vehicles, could escalate to 245% when combined with existing levies. While some businesses in the supply chain might be able to absorb these costs, the reality is that these expenses are often passed on to consumers. This trend is already affecting the prices of tech and gaming products, including Nintendo Switch 2 accessories and gaming laptops.

Anbernic has assured that it is "working to find a suitable solution" for any customers who face custom fees "during this transitional period."

In related news, Nintendo recently unveiled the Switch 2 during a 60-minute Nintendo Direct. Originally, pre-orders for the console were scheduled to open in early April in the U.S., but due to tariff-related uncertainties in both the U.S. and Canada, Nintendo has delayed the pre-order date to April 24. Despite the delay, Nintendo has kept the $449.99 price point for the Switch 2 console and its games, though prices for most Switch 2 accessories have been raised.
