Earlier this year, Dell revitalized the iconic Alienware Area-51 series of prebuilt gaming PCs, but until recently, the only graphics card option available was the RTX 5080. That's changed now. You can now configure your Alienware Area-51 with an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU and the highly anticipated Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, starting at $5,499.99. Even better, you won't have to wait long; Dell is estimating an early April ship date.

The $5,500 configuration might be the starting point for an Alienware Area-51 gaming PC with a 5090 GPU, but at this price, you should expect top-tier specs, and this configuration doesn't disappoint. It features an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU, 32GB of DDR5-6400MHz RAM, and a 2TB NVMe SSD. The Core Ultra 9 285K is Intel's latest flagship CPU, delivering exceptional performance for both gaming and workstation tasks. Although it doesn't surpass the performance of the i9-14900K as much as hoped, it's currently the best Intel has to offer. The processor is cooled by a robust 360mm all-in-one liquid cooler, and the system is powered by a hefty 1,500W 80Plus Platinum-rated power supply.

New for 2025: The Alienware Area-51 Chassis

Dell unveiled the new Alienware Area-51 gaming PC at CES 2025. The chassis design echoes the 2024 R16 model but includes aesthetic and cooling redesigns along with updated components. The I/O panel is now located at the top of the case, and the tempered glass window extends across the entire side panel. Air intakes are positioned at the bottom and front of the case, promoting a positive airflow design that keeps the interior cleaner. The internal components have been upgraded with a new motherboard, faster RAM, and a more powerful power supply to support the latest CPUs and GPUs.

The RTX 5090 Is the Most Powerful Graphics Card Ever

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 stands out as the most powerful consumer GPU available. While Nvidia focuses on software updates, AI enhancements, and DLSS 4 technology to boost gameplay performance, the 5090 still offers a 25%-30% increase in raw raster performance over the RTX 4090. Additionally, it comes with more (32GB vs 24GB) and faster (GDDR7 vs GDDR6) VRAM. However, finding this GPU at its retail price is challenging, with eBay listings ranging from $3,500 to $4,000.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 FE Review by Jackie Thomas

"The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has officially dethroned the RTX 4090, though with a less dramatic performance leap than in previous generations. For traditional non-AI gaming, the RTX 5090 delivers one of the smallest generational uplifts we've seen recently. However, in games that support it, DLSS 4 can significantly enhance performance, though 75% of the frames are AI-generated."
