Threads of Time, An RPG Inspired by Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger, Lands on Xbox and Steam

Threads of Time, a captivating 2.5D RPG inspired by genre legends such as Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy, was unveiled at the Xbox showcase during Tokyo Game Show 2024. Developed by the indie studio Riyo Games, this title is in development for Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam. While an official release date remains under wraps, plans for releases on PS5 and Nintendo Switch have yet to be confirmed.

This eagerly awaited game is poised to challenge the acclaimed RPG Sea of Stars, capturing the essence of Square Enix's beloved Chrono series. Threads of Time marks Riyo Games' debut into the retro-style RPG scene, brimming with nostalgia.

"Riyo Games’ vision is to craft retro-infused RPGs that awaken treasured childhood memories," the studio stated in their press release. "It all started with a promise between two kids, huddled next to their CRT TV playing RPGs after school, to one day create fantastical, story-rich adventures together."

Set in a mesmerizing 2.5D pixel art world, Threads of Time invites players to join a diverse group of characters from various time periods on epic adventures spanning from the age of dinosaurs to the era of mechanical robots. The narrative delves deep into a sinister plot that threatens the very fabric of time. In addition to its stunning pixel art, the game features cutting-edge anime cutscenes that enhance the storytelling.

Threads of Time introduces an enchanting roster of party members, including Rye, a mysterious young swordsman from 1000 AD; Bo, a skilled veterinarian from 12,000,000 BC; and Rin, a blade-wielding kitsune from 2400 AD, among others.
