Hello discerning readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 28th, 2024. Yesterday's presentation was packed with exciting announcements, wasn't it? A plethora of surprise releases means our typically quiet Wednesday is anything but – and that's a welcome change! We've got news, a review of today's eShop additions, and the usual sales updates. Let's dive in!
Partner/Indie World Showcase Delivers Abundant Offerings
The decision to present two smaller showcases was a smart move, resulting in a flurry of announcements. While a complete rundown is impossible here, highlights include surprise releases (detailed below), Capcom Fighting Collection 2, the Suikoden I & II remasters, Yakuza Kiwami, Tetris Forever, MySims, Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition, new entries in the Atelier and Rune Factory franchises, and much more. I strongly recommend watching the video for a comprehensive overview. Plenty of excellent titles cater to diverse gaming preferences.
A third Castlevania compilation, a delightful surprise from the Direct, features three Nintendo DS titles: Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia. It also includes the infamous arcade game, Haunted Castle, alongside an M2-developed remake that significantly improves upon the original. This collection offers exceptional emulation and desirable features, representing incredible value for its price.
This Wario Land-inspired, fast-paced platformer is another surprise release. Conquer five sprawling floors of the Pizza Tower to save your restaurant. Fans of Wario's handheld adventures will find this irresistible, but even those without strong Wario feelings should consider it if they enjoy platformers. A review is pending.
The surprise releases continue! Goat Simulator 3 needs little introduction. While performance on the Switch is unconfirmed, it's worth noting that more powerful systems have experienced some challenges. Proceed with caution, though even poor performance might enhance the game's inherent chaotic nature. Essentially, it's silly goats engaging in silly antics in an open world – your Switch might not appreciate it.
While it's tempting to criticize EA's decision to omit PopCap games from the Switch, Peglin provides a satisfying alternative for Peggle enthusiasts. This mobile hit is just as enjoyable on the Switch, blending Peggle mechanics with turn-based RPG roguelite elements. A review is forthcoming.
Kairosoft's familiar shop simulation formula receives a Doraemon makeover. The popular manga and anime characters are well-integrated, and fans might even spot cameos from the artist's other works.
More Pico Park for existing fans. Up to eight players can participate locally or online, making cooperation key to solving the puzzle stages. While not drastically different from the first game, it's a solid addition for those who enjoyed the original.
An affordable rhythm game featuring Kamitsubaki Studio music. Simple, but enjoyable at its price point.
A Sokoban-style puzzle game featuring a penguin. One hundred levels of crate-pushing await.
Over three hundred quirky physics-based puzzles. Players utilize character abilities and drawing mechanics to solve problems. Supports up to four players locally or online.
