A unique Street Fighter 6 tournament is coming to Japan, placing an unusual emphasis on sleep! Read on to discover the details of the "Sleep Fighter" tournament and its impressive roster.
This isn't your average fighting game tournament. The officially Capcom-backed "Sleep Fighter" event, organized by SS Pharmaceuticals to promote their sleep aid Drewell, introduces a revolutionary twist: sleep points.
Sleep Fighter is a team-based competition. Three-player teams battle in best-of-three matches, accumulating points for wins. However, the key is Sleep Points. For the week leading up to the tournament, each team member must log at least six hours of sleep nightly. Teams failing to reach a collective 126 hours will face a five-point penalty for every hour short. The team boasting the most total sleep time also gets to choose the tournament's match conditions!
SS Pharmaceuticals aims to highlight the importance of sleep for peak performance with their "Let's Do the Challenge, Let's Sleep First" campaign. According to the official website, Sleep Fighter is the first esports tournament to penalize insufficient sleep.
The Sleep Fighter tournament takes place August 31st at Ryogoku KFC Hall in Tokyo. Limited to 100 attendees (lottery entry), the event will be livestreamed on YouTube and Twitch for global audiences. Further broadcast details will be announced on the official tournament website and Twitter (X) account.
This event boasts a star-studded lineup of over a dozen professional players and streamers. Notable participants include two-time EVO champion "Itazan" Itabashi Zangief and top SF player Dogura, promising an exciting spectacle of skill and… well-rested gameplay.
