Bloober Team, fresh off the success of their Silent Hill 2 remake, has announced a new partnership with Konami to develop a game based on one of Konami's intellectual properties. While neither company has revealed the title or franchise, given Bloober's horror expertise and the remake's 2 million sales, another Silent Hill entry seems highly probable. Konami will retain publishing and rights ownership.
Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno released this statement:
Konami, a gaming legend, sought a partner to revitalize one of its most iconic franchises – Silent Hill. Bloober Team was chosen for our horror expertise and atmospheric storytelling. Our 2021 partnership culminated in the Silent Hill 2 remake announcement during the October 2022 Silent Hill Transmission.
The remake's success, achieving an 86/100 Metacritic and 88/100 OpenCritic score, along with numerous accolades including IGN Japan's 2024 Game of the Year and IGN Community's Best Horror Game, solidified our partnership. This success paved the way for a new project agreement. This aligns with Bloober Team's strategic expansion of its first-party development.
Our Konami collaboration has been incredibly productive, and the Silent Hill 2 remake's success speaks volumes. Knowledge sharing has enabled high-quality production. While details remain under wraps, we're confident fans will be thrilled. We eagerly anticipate unveiling this special project.
The Silent Hill 2 remake, released October 8, 2024, for PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam), rapidly sold one million copies within days, potentially setting a franchise sales record (pending Konami's confirmation). IGN awarded it an 8/10, praising it as a "great way to visit – or revisit – one of the most dread-inducing destinations in the history of survival horror."
AnswerSee ResultsThe Silent Hill 2 remake's success significantly bolsters Konami's franchise plans, already revitalized in recent years with Silent Hill f and Silent Hill: Townfall in development, and a Silent Hill 2 film adaptation on the horizon. PC modders are also creatively altering the remake, removing elements like hair sheen and fog, even creating a "Sunny Hills" version.
