Shrek 5's New Look Is So Divisive, Even Movie Sonic Has Commented On It

Shrek 5 has unveiled its new cast and a teaser trailer, prompting even Movie Sonic to offer design advice. In a humorous TikTok video, the Sonic Movie account shared a before-and-after comparison of Sonic's own design, highlighting his transformation from a controversial initial look to his ultimately well-received redesign.

IGN's exclusive first look at the 2018 live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie generated mixed reactions, with fans focusing on aspects like Sonic's teeth, physique, eyes, and fingers. Following the criticism, director Jeff Fowler redesigned the character, resulting in a much more positive reception.

While the response to Shrek's new look isn't as extreme as Sonic's initial design, Sonic's playful advice has amused fans. Comments included, "You know it's bad when you see the Sonic Movie account giving Shrek 5 advice," and "No way they actually posted this," accompanied by a crying emoji.

Initially announced in 2016, Shrek 5's development was confirmed by Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, in 2023, along with plans for a Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures shifted Shrek 5's release date to December 23, 2026, moving it from the original slot occupied by the Minions 3 release.
