Pirate Software Kicked Out of OnlyFangs World of Warcraft Guild

Summary

  • World of Warcraft streamer Pirate Software was expelled from the OnlyFangs guild following a disastrous Dire Maul North run resulting in Hardcore character deaths.
  • Pirate Software's refusal to accept responsibility for the deaths prompted his dismissal by Guild Master Sodapoppin.

Pirate Software's recent expulsion from the prominent World of Warcraft streaming guild, OnlyFangs, stems from a failed Dire Maul North run in the game's Anniversary servers. The newly added Dire Maul to these servers has already claimed several OnlyFangs Hardcore characters.

Prior to Blizzard's official launch of Hardcore servers in August 2023 (which saw a dip in popularity until the November 2024 Anniversary server launch), players self-regulated zero-death runs. The Anniversary servers revitalized World of Warcraft Classic, significantly impacting the population of the original Classic servers. Since their introduction, numerous Hardcore players have perished, while others have achieved level 60 under the stringent rules. The recent deaths of Sara and Snupy are attributed to Pirate Software's actions, leading to his banishment.

Social media posts confirm Sodapoppin's decision, detailed in a Discord statement. The statement highlights the guild's discomfort with Pirate Software following the deaths of two members during the Dire Maul run. The incident involved the group pulling a boss before clearing nearby Gordok ogres. When a party member suggested retreating to reset the enemies, Pirate Software abandoned the group during the escape, contributing to the deaths. Despite potential leniency under normal guild rules, his unwillingness to accept responsibility solidified the decision. (Note: A video depicting the event contains strong language).

Why Pirate Software's Expulsion from OnlyFangs?

The primary criticism centers on Pirate Software's refusal to acknowledge his role in the deaths. Sodapoppin, during a post-run review, highlighted Pirate Software's failure to utilize crowd control, specifically Blizzard rank 1, to mitigate the threat without excessive mana expenditure. Other OnlyFangs members, such as Mizkif, allege further actions, including threats to fellow streamers, following the incident. Pirate Software responded on Twitter, contesting the handling of the situation.

Given the instability within OnlyFangs since its recreation on the Anniversary server Doomhowl, including previous member expulsions, some former members may form their own group. With Blizzard's continued updates to World of Warcraft Classic, including Vanilla-accurate patches, further OnlyFangs casualties are anticipated as new content is released.
