Paradox Interactive has revealed Europa Universalis V, its latest grand strategy title, following a teaser shared last week.
The studio behind hits like Cities: Skylines, Crusader Kings, and Stellaris showcased the game with a stunning cinematic trailer today. Developed by Paradox Tinto in Barcelona, Spain—the team behind recent Europa Universalis 4 updates—the game has no set release date, but its Europa Universalis 5 Steam page is now live.
“Navigate 500 years of history with unmatched strategic depth in Europa Universalis V, the most expansive entry in the acclaimed series,” Paradox shared in a statement. “Master warfare, trade, diplomacy, and governance as you shape the fate of countless nations in a dynamic, richly detailed world.”
Europa Universalis V has been in development at Paradox Tinto for over five years, crafted with dedicated fans in mind. The team incorporated “over a year of community feedback,” emphasizing that player input has shaped “the most intricate and expansive Europa Universalis title yet.”
The game’s campaign kicks off in 1337, at the start of the Hundred Years’ War. Players will guide their nation through pivotal historical events, leveraging a host of new features. Today’s reveal highlighted a larger, more accurate map with diverse societies, a population-driven system, and enhanced production and trade mechanics. Players can establish farms, plantations, and factories or engage in trade with neighboring regions.
The focus is on delivering a strategy experience that empowers players to govern their nation as they envision. Initially teased as an “ambitious” mystery project last week, fans had already pieced together the clues.
