Onimusha: Way of the Sword New Trailer Shows Off New Gameplay, Protagonist

Capcom unveiled fresh gameplay footage of its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal also confirmed a highly anticipated detail: the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi will lead the charge.

A new trailer, showcased during the PlayStation State of Play, offered a captivating glimpse into the game's sword-based combat and imposing enemies. Despite its 2026 release date, Onimusha: Way of the Sword already promises thrilling action.

Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the iconic Toshiro Mifune, renowned for his samurai roles.

The game unfolds in a Kyoto overrun by Malic, an evil force summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new Onimusha title in two decades. To bridge the gap and build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
