Nintendo Switch 2 Direct: April 2, 2025

The trailer highlighted a larger display, a wider, more stable kickstand, and magnetically attaching Joy-Cons—a departure from the original Switch's rails. A new USB-C port on the console itself was also confirmed.

Crucially, Nintendo confirmed backward compatibility. Players can enjoy both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, although some titles may have limited or no support. Specific unsupported titles will be detailed on Nintendo's website at a later date. Nintendo Switch Online functionality will also carry over.

While no exclusive titles were officially announced, the trailer hinted at a new Mario Kart installment (possibly Mario Kart 9), and rumors suggest Gotham Knights may be coming to the Switch 2, though neither Warner Bros. For those eager to experience the Switch 2 firsthand, Nintendo is hosting "Nintendo Switch 2 Experience" events in major cities worldwide.

Registration opens January 17th, 2025, at 12:00 P.M. PT / 2:00 P.M. CT / 3:00 P.M. ET, closing January 26th, 2025, at 11:59 P.M. local time for each location. A random selection process will determine participants, who will be notified shortly after the registration period. A Nintendo Account is required.
