Nintendo Says It's Taking 'All Possible Measures' to Beat Switch 2 Scalpers

Nintendo is prepared to combat potential shortages and scalpers at the launch of the Switch 2, stating, "We are making preparations." Following the release of its latest financial results, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa addressed concerns about a repeat of the original Switch's 2017 launch shortages. He assured Nikkei that Nintendo will implement measures based on past experience to mitigate issues related to scalpers and supply.

These preparations likely involve significantly increasing Switch 2 production. Nintendo previously emphasized sufficient manufacturing to meet demand as a key strategy against scalpers, learning from the original Switch's launch supply constraints. Furukawa reiterated this commitment, stating that producing enough consoles remains the primary countermeasure. He also mentioned exploring additional measures within legal and regulatory frameworks. He noted that the semiconductor shortages impacting Switch production in previous years have been resolved.

A dedicated Switch 2 Direct is scheduled for April 2nd, promising further details. Hands-on events will also be held globally.

Addressing recent declines in Switch sales, Furukawa downplayed the impact of consumers waiting for the Switch 2, asserting that while sales haven't met targets, the eighth year of the Switch remains strong. Nintendo intends to continue supporting the original Switch as long as demand persists, with Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond slated for 2025 release.
