Warner Bros. Games has announced the impending closure of MultiVersus, effective May 30, 2025, following the conclusion of its fifth and final season. The announcement, made via the official MultiVersus Twitter (X) account on January 31, 2025, confirmed that Season 5 will be the game's last content update.

Season 5: A Final Farewell

Season 5, launching February 4, 2025, will introduce two new playable characters: Aquaman (DC) and Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes). All Season 5 content will be unlockable through gameplay. Once Season 5 ends, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. No official reason for the shutdown has been provided.

A silver lining for fans: an offline mode will be available. Players can download the final Season 5 update (February 4th, 9 AM PST to May 30th, 9 AM PDT) to enable local gameplay, either solo against AI or with up to three friends. The game will automatically create a local save file linked to the player's online account, preserving all earned and purchased content.

Real-money transactions ceased on January 31, 2025. Any remaining Gleamium can be used until Season 5's end.

A Brief History and Challenges

Initially launched in July 2022 as a public beta, MultiVersus quickly gained attention as a free-to-play platform fighter. A relaunch in May 2024 introduced new features, including characters, rollback netcode, and a PvE mode. However, persistent technical issues, frequent disconnections, and player concerns regarding microtransactions ultimately impacted the game's success. Reports indicated a significant player base decline in July 2024.

At its closure, MultiVersus will boast a roster of 35 playable characters. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support. MultiVersus remains downloadable on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30, 2025.
