Undertale creator Toby Fox has provided an update on the testing phase for Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4. Read on for details about console testing and what to expect.
Toby Fox, via his Bluesky account, shared that console testing is underway. While much work remains, progress is positive. He noted, "Still console testing. There are fewer bugs, but there's a lot to go through. (Haven't even tested PS5 yet)." Beyond bug fixes, the team is working to enable save transfers from the Chapters 1 and 2 demo to the full release. This feature, recently made possible by new technology, is a welcome addition. "I hope it works!" Fox added.
With beta testing progressing well, a release date may be on the horizon. Fox has confirmed a 2025 release for Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4.
Amidst the development efforts, Fox shared a humorous anecdote: "I showed my family and friends a minigame I've been working on for DR (Deltarune) and they all described it as ‘a cry for help because your game is not out’," he posted. His family found it positive, while a friend laughed for ten minutes straight.
This minigame has sparked speculation; as Fox previously stated (in 2024) that Chapters 3 and 4 were content-complete, this could be for Chapter 5. Deltarune is planned for seven chapters.
He further revealed, "Same friend who played Chapter 3 like over a year ago also told me ‘I miss Tenna’ and I was like ‘man that's something no one in the world has ever said huh’". Tenna, a previously unseen character first glimpsed during the Spamton Sweepstakes (September 2022), is confirmed for Chapter 3.
Deltarune, the successor to 2015's Undertale, retains many of the original's mechanics while introducing a new story and characters. Players join Kris, Susie, and Ralsei on a world-saving adventure.
