Rebel Wolves' recently revealed The Blood of Dawnwalker, an open-world dark fantasy action-RPG, promises a compelling narrative experience. The game reveal event, held January 16th, offered a deeper look into its story and gameplay.

Meet Coen, the Dawnwalker

Players embody Coen, a Dawnwalker—a being existing between human and vampire—in the fictional 14th-century European setting of Vale Sangora. Unlike typical protagonists, Coen is described as emotional, vulnerable, and honest. His journey begins with a confrontation against Brencis, an ancient vampire who has subjugated Vale Sangora. Coen's mission: save his family within a 30-day/night timeframe (though the game's time flow is not strictly real-time).

The reveal trailer showcases Coen's unique abilities, hinting at vampiric powers like superhuman agility and magical capabilities. While details remain scarce, the developers have addressed some fan questions via their Discord server.

Dawnwalkers, explained Rebel Wolves, are not simply hybrids; they represent a distinct entity. The game's magic system is grounded in the occult, focusing on rituals, amulets, and summonings rather than flamboyant spellcasting.

A Narrative Sandbox with Choice and Consequence

Coen's quest to save his family unfolds within a "narrative sandbox," emphasizing player agency and freedom. The nonlinear storyline adapts to player choices, impacting the world's evolution. To maintain this single-player focus, multiplayer or co-op modes are absent. However, romance options are included, allowing Coen to forge relationships with various characters, including those from diverse races like uriashi or kobolds.

Developed by former CD Projekt Red developers (known for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077), The Blood of Dawnwalker is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A release date is yet to be announced.
