Newly surfaced images reveal details about Sony's cancelled Twisted Metal game, developed by Firesprite. The leaked screenshots, though blurred and marked "Under NDA," suggest a live-service title blending the franchise's signature vehicular combat with battle royale elements. The project, codenamed "Project Copper," is described by a former Firesprite UI developer as a "third-person vehicular action combat game based on a classic IP owned by PlayStation," with the objective of being the last player standing.
The cancellation, reportedly part of February 2024 layoffs, occurred before the game received official approval. Firesprite, the UK-based studio behind the project, was impacted by the restructuring.

This cancellation aligns with Sony's apparent shift away from live-service titles following both successes and significant setbacks. While Helldivers 2 achieved remarkable sales, Concord, a live-service hero shooter, quickly failed. Furthermore, Sony also cancelled two other unannounced live-service games in January 2024, including a God of War title. The decision to halt The Last of Us Online development in December 2023 further underscores this strategic recalibration.
Despite the game's cancellation, fans can still look forward to the continued success of the Twisted Metal TV series on Peacock, with Season 2 already in the works. IGN's review of Season 1 awarded it an 8/10, praising its blend of comedy, violence, and unexpected depth.
