The open-world vampire RPG from ex-CD Projekt Red developers, The Blood of Dawnwalker, aims for Witcher 3-level quality in a more focused experience. Discover more about this upcoming title and the director's vision.
The Blood of Dawnwalker: Aiming for AAA Quality
In an interview with GamesRadar, Creative Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz revealed that despite being a smaller studio launching its debut game, Rebel Wolves strives for AAA quality comparable to CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3.
Addressing the often blurry line between AA and AAA, Tomaszkiewicz clarified, "In terms of quality, we definitely look at AAA, because this is where we are coming from, the quality level of The Witcher 3."
While Rebel Wolves is a new studio, its team boasts extensive experience. Composed of former CD Projekt Red developers who worked on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, Rebel Wolves leverages years of industry expertise. Mateusz and his brother Konrad founded the studio to pursue greater creative freedom than offered by larger AAA studios.
Tomaszkiewicz explained, "Our game isn't as massive in terms of content and playtime—we're a smaller studio, and this is our first project. But we aim for robust quality, even if it's a shorter experience." He anticipates a 30-40 hour campaign for The Blood of Dawnwalker, acknowledging it's not the length of a typical AAA title. He added, "If size is the sole measure, then yes, it's not Witcher sized. But I question if size is the only metric. AAA games like Call of Duty don't have 100+ hour campaigns, and I doubt anyone would call them AA or indie."
The Blood of Dawnwalker is a narrative-driven, open-world dark fantasy RPG set in the mystical land of Vale Sangora. Players embody Coen, a young peasant granted vampiric powers after an encounter with a powerful vampire. Coen's mission: save his ailing sister, navigating the dangers and challenges of Vale Sangora.
While a release date remains unannounced, the game is slated for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A gameplay reveal is planned for Summer 2025.
