Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Launches with Arachnophobia Mode and Game Pass Debut
Activision has unveiled exciting new features for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, arriving October 25th. The game's Game Pass day-one launch has analysts speculating on its impact on Xbox's subscription numbers.
A new arachnophobia toggle is coming to Black Ops 6 Zombies mode. This setting alters the appearance of spider-like enemies, transforming them into legless, seemingly floating creatures. While the visual change is significant (see image below), the developers haven't detailed if the hitbox is also adjusted.
The update also introduces a "Pause and Save" feature for solo players in Round-Based mode. This allows players to pause, save their progress, and reload with full health, mitigating the frustration of starting over after death.
Industry analysts are divided on Black Ops 6's potential to boost Xbox Game Pass subscriptions. While some predict a substantial increase (3-4 million new subscribers), others suggest a more modest rise (around 2.5 million, potentially including existing subscribers upgrading their plans). The success of this strategy is crucial for Microsoft's gaming division.
The pressure is on for Xbox to prove that Black Ops 6 can make the Game Pass model profitable. The game marks the first time a Call of Duty title is available on Game Pass on day one for both Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
