Ananta Unveiled: Project Mugen Renamed, Trailer Released

Remember Project Mugen, the anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's undergone a name change and is now officially called Ananta.

Initially unveiled at Gamescom 2023, Ananta has finally released a new trailer after a prolonged silence. More details are promised on December 5th. Until then, enjoy the official trailer:

The Name Change Enigma

The developers haven't yet explained the name change. Interestingly, both "Ananta" (Sanskrit) and "Mugen" (Japanese) translate to "infinite," a thematic consistency reinforced by the Chinese title.

The gaming community is divided on the rebranding, but universally relieved the project hasn't been cancelled. Comparisons to Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness, are inevitable. While Ananta's trailer is visually striking, the lack of gameplay footage gives Neverness to Everness a perceived advantage for some. Personally, I find Ananta's aesthetic more captivating.

A Curious Turn of Events

Surprisingly, the development team deleted all their original social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only the Discord server remains, simply renamed. This abrupt fresh start has left many gamers puzzled.

In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator confronting supernatural threats. Notable characters include Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
